Find out why we chose the 2021 Ford Explorer for our cross-country trip.
This is the first time we’ll be traveling the United States and we had some important things to consider before we left.
Did we want to buy an RV?
We talked about it but decided that the RV was not for us (this time).
We decided on a midsize SUV as we needed space for Abby and me as well as Frankie.
But which SUV should we choose?
There are a lot of choices available, but only one stood out to us as being the best.
One of our top priorities is the safety ratings of the car we’ll be driving everywhere.
2021 Ford Explorer XLT
We knew right away that we liked the Explorer.
It looks great, has a lot of great features but most importantly the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) gave a 5-Star Rating.
Some of the many features that appealed to us include:
- The Safety Ratings
- Co-Pilot 360
- Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control
- Evasive Steering Assist
- Lane Keeping System
We’ve put about 1300 miles on the car so far and overall we’re really happy with it.
The Bad
The only negative I’ve discovered so far is the horn beeping when you exit the vehicle.
If you start the car and then exit the car with your keys, the horn beeps twice.
It’s such an annoying feature and completely unnecessary, but apparently there is no way to turn this off.
Ford has to offer a fix to this especially given that we can lock and unlock our Explorer with our iPhone.
Conclusion
We really do love how this car drives.
It is substantial, does really well in the rain and we would definitely recommend it!
Check back often as we’ll update this post during our travels.
